Subject: Microsoft forced to deny wild rumor on the Internet
From: Ian (spectre at uiuc.edu)

As Dave Barry often has to say, "I'm not making this up!" I just read (in an article dated Friday 16 December) that Microsoft has been having to deny that it is actually trying to acquire the Roman Catholic Church!!!

Y'all probably remember that joke post that has been circulating about how Microsoft is acquiring the Catholic Church? Well, apparently enough people have believed it that Microsoft has been getting "a flood of angry telephone calls and electronic mail messages" according to Reuters. "The item was even picked up and mentioned on the air by nationally syndicated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh" although it didn't say if he made fun of it or if he believed it...

Merry Christmas,
Ian
